Only Cardholders can interact with U.S. Bank: the bank is unaware of the identities of any Department Administrators or Reviewers.
If a Cardholder is not available, and the department needs to contact the bank (or even to have a monthly statement printed), it should contact FlexCard Administration, which has access to all Cardholder accounts.
BY TELEPHONE
U.S. Bank has 24-hour, 7-day hotline numbers that should be contacted in the following situations:
(800) 344-5696 - activating a FlexCard, reporting a lost, stolen or damaged card, filing a dispute
(800) 523-9078 - reporting fraudulent activity
VIA ACCESS ONLINE
The U.S. bank website is used by Cardholders for two primary purposes: (1) to set up their user account and (2) to access and print monthly bank statements. See below for more information on Access Online.
TO ACTIVATE A NEW FLEXCARD
Upon receipt of your new FlexCard, call U.S. Bank at 800-344-5696 (the number is printed on a sticker attached to the card). In order to activate your card, you will be asked to provide:
- the 16-digit card account number
- your Social Security Number
VERY IMPORTANT: When asked for your SSN (whether you contact the bank or the bank contacts you), you must provide your UCSB EMPLOYEE ID NUMBER. UCSB does NOT use your SSN when creating your account.
TO REPORT FRAUD AND LOST AND STOLEN CARDS
If you detect FRAUD during a review of transactions in the Allocation Module, IMMEDIATELY contact the Fraud Division at U.S. Bank by calling 800-523-9078.
If your FlexCard has been LOST OR STOLEN, IMMEDIATELY contact U.S. Bank at 800-344-5696.
When you contact the bank, they will ask you to provide identifying information:
- Your name (as embossed on the card)
- The last four digits of your Social Security Number (remember - you must provide the last four digits of your EMPLOYEE ID NUMBER)
- The card's billing/mailing address (you can find this on either your most recent statement, or the mailer to which your card was attached when first sent to you)
You should have these pieces of information ready before you call the bank!
TO DISPUTE A CHARGE
You may file a dispute with U.S. Bank by calling 800-344-5696 in cases where you have first attempted, and failed, to resolve a disputed transaction directly with a merchant – for example, in a case where an incorrect shipment was made or an over-billing occurred. If the merchant will not issue a credit or corrected invoice, you can leverage U.S. Bank’s clout to assist you in resolving the problem.
U.S. Bank will not contact Cardholders except in situations where fraudulent activity is suspected. Contact will always be BY TELEPHONE.
U.S. Bank Fraud Division will first verify that you are the Cardholder by asking several questions:
- Your name (as embossed on the card)
- Your billing/mailing address: University of California MC----, Department Name, Santa Barbara, CA 93106-0001 (you can find this on either your most recent statement or the mailer to which your card was attached when first sent to you)
- Last four digits of your account number
- The last four digits of your Social Security Number (remember - you must provide the last four digits of your EMPLOYEE ID NUMBER)
- Single Transaction and Monthly Credit limits
- Card Description which is embossed on your card below your name
If you cannot be reached, U.S. Bank will leave a voicemail message and will SUSPEND YOUR FLEXCARD to prevent any more possible fraudulent transactions from being processed. Therefore, it is important to call U.S. Bank as soon as possible. With your FlexCard suspended, no new purchases can be made and merchants trying to charge the card for previously authorized purchases will experience declines!
If U.S. Bank cannot reach a Cardholder after two attempts, it will contact FlexCard Administration.
U.S. Bank will never attempt to contact a Cardholder VIA EMAIL.
Any communication from the bank (for example, notification of monthly statements) will be relayed to you by FlexCard Administration.
Disregard and immediately delete any “email from U.S. Bank” – it will be a PHISHING request: a fake message that appears to be from the bank, usually claiming there is a problem with your account and asking you to follow a link to a website, where you will be asked to enter personal information. Because the fake websites look so authentic, phishing scams successfully lure in 5% of email recipients.
U.S. Bank maintains a website available to all U.S. Bank customers:
This website provides its customers with many resources. UCSB FlexCard cardholders will use the U.S. Bank Access Online website for two primary purposes.
